RESTORATION OF THE ITALIAN TANKETTE
CV35 “CARRO VELOCE”

When we started with the CV33 restoration we didn’t really know what to expect.

The general condition was rather poor and references were hard to come by. I
nitially we had intended to make the CV33 a runner, but as the magneto and generator were missing and some damage was encountered with the gear casing that surrounds the starting chain system this idea was soon abandoned.

As the project progressed I was given the job of actually doing the work involved and this was a great opportunity to work on this rare and interesting vehicle. I approach my work as that of an archaeologist to some extent in that one is in the position of scraping away the years of paint to try and establish the history behind the artifact.

It is immensely satisfying to discover the various secrets that are hidden beneath layers of dirt and old paint.

As the project progressed I made contact with various Italian gentlemen who were able to supply us with a technical manual of the slightly earlier version of this tankette, besides this I made contact with some enthusiasts in other parts of the world via the internet and they possessed various books with the odd image that helped with the interior layout.

The grey interior colour was suggested by one of these Italian gents so I hope it is right for this particular vehicle.

During the course of our research we were contacted by renowned expert on German tanks, Hilary Doyle, who was able to track down the history of our particular vehicle which is given below.

Finally please forgive any errors that may have been incorporated into the restoration, with the information at hand this was the best I could do.
